EFRA Committee publishes strategy to guide its
work
The EFRA Committee today publishes a document which details its
strategic principles and the policy priorities that will underpin
its work over the course of this Parliament.
In November, the Committee received over 320 responses to the
survey it launched to gather stakeholders' views on priority
areas for scrutiny. Since then, 36 organisations have
participated in roundtable events with the Committee, and the
Committee Chair MP has conducted
one–to–one meetings with over 35 key stakeholders. The
Committee's strategy document is informed by this breadth of
consultation and engagement with stakeholders.
The themes emanating from this initial engagement with
stakeholders are detailed in the stakeholder consultation
document, also published today.
The strategy sets out
the method through which the Committee will arrange its work
agenda around overarching themes, to allow a long-term focus on
important policy issues, while building in flexibility. While
scrutinising issues contained within its selected priority
themes, the Committee will report on the policy areas arising, on
an ad-hoc and iterative basis.
The Committee will focus its work around
the following themes:
- Reforming the water sector
- Fairness in the food supply chain
- Fisheries and the marine environment
- Preventing waste and enabling a circular economy
- Supporting rural and coastal communities
- Weather and climate resilience
