OfS statement on the preferred candidate to be the next Chair of the Office for Students

The Department for Education has announced that Professor Edward Peck is the government's preferred candidate to be the new chair of the Office for Students (OfS). 

Commenting on the announcement, Susan Lapworth, chief executive of the OfS, said:  

‘Professor Peck's significant experience in the higher education sector makes him an excellent candidate to be the next chair of the Office for Students. Alongside his leadership of Nottingham Trent University, Edward has also led important work to improve students' mental health and wellbeing right across the sector. 

‘It is important that parliament's pre-appointment scrutiny can now take place. If Edward is confirmed following that process, everyone at the OfS will look forward to working with him as we finalise our new strategy and continue to ensure that students from all backgrounds benefit from high quality higher education, delivered by a diverse, sustainable sector that continues to improve.'
