The House of Lords Communications and Digital Committee will next
week take evidence from investment bankers, venture capital firms
and tech entrepreneurs as it investigates the challenges facing
AI and creative technology companies.
The Committee is exploring the scale-up scene and why the UK
still struggles to turn innovative start-ups into successful
scale-ups, and ensure their long-term expansion happens in the
UK.
The evidence session will start at 2:30pm on Tuesday 29
October in Committee Room 3 of the House of Lords. Giving
evidence to the Committee will be:
-
Erin Platts, CEO, HSBC Innovation Banking
-
Alex Kendall, CEO & co-founder, Wayve
-
James Wise, Partner, Balderton Capital
-
Michael Holmes, CEO, Scale Space

- The importance of companies achieving scale within the UK,
and implications for the new Government's growth plans.
- The challenges posed by the relative size of the UK domestic
market.
- How much it matters if investment comes from within the UK or
foreign sources, alongside questions on the potential impact of
recent financial reforms.
- The role of scaling hubs, and the importance of access to
skilled employees and infrastructure.
- The role of Government investment vehicles - such as the
British Business Bank and National Wealth Fund.
- The impact of regulation, and what more the Government can do
to support UK businesses in the AI and creative tech sectors.
