Following the close of nominations to run to be the next
Conservative Party Leader at 1430 on 29th July
2024, the candidates nominated in the first part of the
contest are:
- The Rt Hon Mrs MP
- The Rt Hon Mr MP
- The Rt Hon Mr MP
- The Rt Hon Dame MP
- The Rt Hon MP
- The Rt Hon Mr MP
Candidates needed a proposer, a seconder and eight nominations to
proceed to the ballot.
The Leadership Candidates will now set out their stall to the
Conservative Party membership.
Upon the return to Parliament on Monday 2nd September
2024 the Parliamentary party will narrow down to four candidates
through a series of Parliamentary hustings and a ballot on
Wednesday 4th September 2024.
The four candidates who will make their case to Conservative
Party members at the Conservative Party Conference will be
announced on the week commencing the 9th September
2024.
There will be a number of hustings and other events during
Conservative Party Conference. Details of these will be set out
in due course.
After Conference Recess, there will be Parliamentary hustings on
Tuesday 8th October 2024, followed by a ballot in
Parliament on Wednesday 9th October 2024.
There will be another set of Parliamentary hustings on Thursday
10th October 2024, with a final ballot of the
Parliamentary Party on the same day.
The final two candidates will be announced by Thursday
10th October 2024.
Upon the conclusion of the Parliamentary process, CCHQ will
assume responsibility for the administration of the vote of the
Conservative Party membership on behalf of the Party Board.
The ballot of Party members will be conducted via secure online
voting. The ballot will close at 1700hrs on Thursday 31st October
– the result will be announced on Saturday 2nd November. Only
qualifying members of the Party can vote.
MP will act as returning officer for the
election.
The Rt Hon MP remains acting as Leader of
the party until a successor is appointed on Saturday
2nd November 2024.
