Correction: ‘All-time low’: HMRC customer service deteriorates amid taxpayers’ exasperation finds PAC inquiry

The Public Accounts Committee has put out the following correction:

The line in the introduction to the report, “It estimated the tax gap (the difference between the amount of tax that should, in theory, be paid to HMRC, and what is actually paid) to be £739.3 billion in 2021–22, the latest year available, equal to 4.8% of total theoretical tax liabilities”, should correctly read: “It estimated the tax gap (the difference between the amount of tax that should, in theory, be paid to HMRC, and what is actually paid) to be £35.8 billion, or 4.8% of total theoretical liabilities (£739.3 billion) in 2021-22, the latest year available.”
