The SNP will table a motion for a fresh vote on an immediate
ceasefire in Gaza when MPs return to Westminster next week - amid
a growing global outcry over the deaths of more than 28,000
Palestinian children and civilians.
As fears grow over an Israeli military offensive in Rafah, the
SNP will lead an opposition day debate calling on the UK
government and parliament to back an immediate ceasefire.
SNP Westminster Leader will conclude the debate,
which is expected on Wednesday. It will be the first opportunity
for MPs to vote for an immediate ceasefire since the SNP tabled a
similar motion in November.
Commenting, SNP Westminster Leader said:
"The time for equivocating is over. and Sir must back an immediate
ceasefire now.
"Over 28,000 Palestinian children and civilians have already been
killed - and vast swathes of Gaza have been obliterated,
including hospitals and family homes.
"The UK parliament cannot just sit on its hands and do nothing.
International pressure is paramount if an immediate ceasefire is
to happen - and the UK has a moral duty to do its part.
"With every day Sunak and Starmer equivocate - more children are
killed. Enough is enough. This has to end - and it has to end
now."

Notes for Editors:
SNP opposition day motion
Ceasefire in Gaza
That this House calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and
Israel; notes with shock and distress that the death toll has now
risen beyond 28,000, the vast majority of whom were women and
children; further notes that there are currently 1.5 million
Palestinians sheltering in Rafah, 610,000 of whom are children;
also notes that they have nowhere else to go; condemns any
military assault on what is now the largest refugee camp in the
world; further calls for the immediate release of all hostages
taken by Hamas and an end to the collective punishment of the
Palestinian people; and recognises that the only way to stop the
slaughter of innocent civilians is to press for a ceasefire now.
